Comino & Blue Lagoon Guide

Last updated: January 2026

The Blue Lagoon is one of Malta’s most famous summer experiences. It can be incredible or frustrating—depending on timing, preparation, and whether you follow the access rules. This guide keeps it practical.

Important: Blue Lagoon booking / access system

From 1 May 2025, visitors are required to pre-book their visit via an access management system designed to reduce overcrowding. Booking is described as free and organized in time slots. Always confirm the latest rules before your trip because implementation details can change.

Best time to go (realistic advice)

  • Best overall: early morning (cleanest feel, less crowd pressure).
  • If you want photos: go early, before the peak wave arrives.
  • If you want a calmer day: shoulder months or weekdays are usually easier.

What to bring (non-negotiables)

  • Water and sun protection (the sun exposure is high)
  • Swim shoes (rocky areas)
  • Cash/card for basic needs
  • Phone battery or power bank (for confirmations and transport)

How to avoid the common mistakes

  • Don’t arrive without knowing your slot and access rules.
  • Don’t underestimate sun exposure—plan shade time.
  • Don’t assume you can “stay forever” without planning. Build the day around the access structure.

Is it worth it?

Yes—if you treat it as a planned experience (early departure, correct booking, and proper prep). If you treat it as a spontaneous stop in peak season, it becomes crowded fast.
